China drafting directive to boost renewable energy development

China’s top planner the National De velopment and Reform Commission (NDRC) is drafting directive guideline s for the development of renewable energy sources, said Li Junfeng, de puty director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Develop ment and Reform Commission (NDRC), at the China Clean Energy Internati onal Summit here Monday.

Details of the new policy were not disclosed.

Renewable energy is estimated to take a 10 percent share in China’s total primary energy consumption in 2010, up from the current 9 p ercent.

Breaking the data down, hydrate power will claim an 8 percent s hare, wind power is to take 1 percent, while other forms of renewable energy will account for the other 1 percent.

“It is no difficulty for renewable energy to reach the target 1 0 percent share next year,” Li said.

China’s renewable energy development has experienced fast growt h in recent years. Experts attending the industrial forum also agree that adjusting the c urrent high energy-consuming industrial structure and pro-GDP growth p attern should be regarded as a top priority in developing a low-carbon economy in China.
