La energía eólica mundial creció un 22,5 % en 2010, incremento que equivale a 35,8 GW. Así lo ha asegurado el Consejo Internacional de la Energía Eólica (GWEC), quien ha apuntado que este crecimiento ha sido impulsado por el desarrollo en China, donde se instalaron cerca de la mitad de las nuevas turbinas.
