Durante el discurso de inauguración del World Future Energy Summit (La Cumbre Mundial de Energía Futura) el secretario general de Naciones Unidas (NU) Ban Ki-moon, estableció como objetivo que 30% de la energía consumida en el mundo para el año 2030 sea de origen renovable.
